The original Canonflex was introduced at about the same time as the original Nikon F, in March of 1959. It was, one presumes, meant to compete with Nikon's camera, and it... well, it didn't. It was replaced one year later by the Canonflex R2000, which sold about 8800 examples before Canon called it a day. The later FD system, including the pro F1, did a lot better- but this R2000 is a very cool look at what might have been. It has a streamlined, removable prism, auto-return mirror, a breechlock mount that would later develop into the FL system, a huge shutter speed dial (with external meter coupling gear) and a bottom-mounted winding lever. This camera is in good working order, with accurate speeds up to 1/1000s, and a slightly slow 1/2000s. Film winding is smooth, and function is excellent. The included Super-Canomatic R 50mm f1.8 lens is in good working order, with light hazing, good focus and diaphragm action. Includes leather case, though the fixing screw is missing. A piece of Canon history in very nice (and usable!) condition.
Please note: this camera and its lens are not compatible with FD/FL lenses and cameras. Mounting an FD/FL lens to this body, or mounting this lens to an FD/FL camera, may damage both. So don't.
